Happy New Year!

News: January 2nd, 2008

It’s 2008+1 day, and WitchDoctorComic.com is live… though not quite ready for the public!
Witch Doctor is a new comic coming in 2008, drawn by Lukas Ketner and written by me, Brandon Seifert.  It’s a hospital horror story — a medical drama spliced with urban dark fantasy.  Hellboy meets House M.D.
The “witch doctor” of the title [...]

Workblogging

News: January 6th, 2008

Inspired by, among other projects, Zuda Comics’ High Moon, I’ve decided to start a workblog in this space.
I’m halfway through the second draft of the script for our first issue. I can tell you it’s about vampires. I can also tell you it’s about vampires as you’ve never seen them before — and [...]

News: February 20th, 2008

Things are moving along. Lukas and I will be releasing Witch Doctor: First Incision, our 16-page ‘demo’, at the fifth annual Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland, Oregon on April 26 and 27. We’ll be holding an official release party the next week, on Thursday, May 1st. And a week or two after [...]

Witch Doctor: Too sexy/ violent/ copyrighted for MySpace!

News: February 25th, 2008

I posted Lukas’ sketch of our vampire as a bulletin on the Witch Doctor MySpace the other day — and MySpace kindly deleted it for us.
“We had to remove an image (or images) from your account because they violated our Terms of Use,” said the message they sent us. “Our site is for people [...]

On Comic Books & other Infectious Diseases

News: April 25th, 2008

To go along with the online release of First Incision, here’s the text piece I did for the back of the print version.
I swear to God, all we wanted was a portfolio piece. Not a brain infection.
A portfolio piece is all Witch Doctor: First Incision was supposed to be for me and Lukas. [...]

… Witch Doctor PIN-UPS??

News: April 25th, 2008

It’s 1:30 in the morning here in Portland. Witch Doctor: First Incision has been online for 24 hours. In that time we’ve had 360 people read our comic (pretty good for a site that averaged 10-15 people a day!), we’ve gotten written about on a local media blog and SFFWorld, plugged by comics [...]

News: April 29th, 2008

Selling it on street corners

News: May 9th, 2008

Witch Doctor: First Incision is currently available for purchase at Floating World Comics (corner of NW 5th and Couch, across from Upper Playground) in Portland.
And if you’re in Seattle during the Emerald City Comic Con this weekend, you can get a copy too — just not at the Con. Lukas and I didn’t manage [...]

Witch Doctor at the Olympia Comics Festival

News: June 6th, 2008

Saturday, June 7 (tomorrow!) is the 2008 Olympia Comics Festival in Olympia, Washing — and Witch Doctor will be there!
I’m actually here already. Olympia’s one of the place that’s near and dear to my heart (because it’s very, very strange), and Lukas will be joining me tomorrow. We’ve only got 20 copies of [...]

Rantz Hoseley on Witch Doctor

News: July 17th, 2008

Rantz Hoseley, creator of Vix!, Displaced Persons and editor of Tori Amos’ Comic Book Tattoo anthology from Image, had some very kind things to say about Witch Doctor
Witch Doctor is the kind of comics we need more of: Witty, self-aware, intelligent stories that acknowledge where comics have been while confidently striding into the future.
Each [...]

  • About Witch Doctor

    It's a sick world.

Literally -- the universe is an organism, and the creatures of myth and folklore are invading parasites, preying on the native species and disrupting the ordered systems of the world.

It's a sick world, and Dr. Vincent Morrow's here to treat it. Headhunted into an exciting new career in the black arts after his excommunication from the medical community, Morrow serves the world with both hands -- one in magic, one in medicine -- as earth's protector. Earth's Witch Doctor.

Witch Doctor: First Incision is a 16-page medical horror comic introducing the Witch Doctor universe, written by Brandon Seifert and illustrated by Lukas Ketner.

"[Witch Doctor] is mental.” — Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, The Authority, Black Summer)

"One guy I'm real excited about is Lukas Ketner... [Witch Doctor is] a great book, and they [Seifert and Ketner] have a lot of talent.” - Scott Allie, Dark Horse Senior Mangaging Editor

"Witch Doctor is awesome. It's House, M.D. by way of H.P. Lovecraft. Witty, gross, gorgeously drawn and just plain fun." - Brett Warnock, publisher, Top Shelf

"Any true horror fan should keep their eyes on Seifert and Ketner." - Mike Dringenberg (co-creator of The Sandman)

"There should be more horror comics like Witch Doctor. It's got the gross outs, and the cool characters, but it has ideas, too. It's a horror comic where they got a good artist and then thought, 'Oh man, what if we got a good writer too?' And that puts them a big leg up." - Joey Comeau, A Softer World

"Lukas Ketner [is] a fast rising star in the world of illustration." - Publishers Weekly's The Beat

"I was instantly reminded of a childhood spent reading classic horror comics like Creepy and Eerie... [Seifert and Ketner's] real-world medical/zoological approach is really intriguing!" — Vampire bat biologist Bill Schutt (Dark Banquet: Blood and the Curious Lives of Blood-Feeding Creatures)

"Witch Doctor is brilliant! A prescription for what's ailing comics today -- a dose of good storytelling." - Jimmie Robinson, creator of Bomb Queen

"EC art crossed with Buffy-funny writing. I feel better already! Thanks, Doc!" - Lea Hernandez, Killer Princesses and Rumble Girls

"The kind of comics we need more of... If you're not reading Witch Doctor, I have no recourse but to seriously question your taste in comics." - Rantz Hoseley, creator of Vix!, Displaced Petsons and editor of Comic Book Tattoo

"The comic book I'm most looking forward to this year... Lukas Ketner's art is fantastic and Brandon Seifert's writing is fucking brilliant. I can't wait to see where they go with this book." - Mark Sweeney, colorist of Warren Ellis' Black Summer
